Black Caps spinner Ish Sodhi has been added to an extended 14-man squad for the Black Caps’ first two one-day internationals against England.
The leggie comes in with good form and gives the Black Caps a third spin option ahead of their first game at Hamilton’s Seddon Park on Sunday.
Fellow spin bowlers Mitchell Santner and Todd Astle remain in the squad despite missing recent matches the former in last week’s Twenty20 tri-series run-fest against Australia at Eden Park through injury.
The Black Caps will also meet England in Tauranga before the squad will be renamed ahead of the final three ODIs in Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch.
Selector Gavin Larsen saw little need for chopping and changing.
“Both Mitchell and Todd have had injury concerns recently, so having Ish travel with us gives further options in the spin department,” Larsen said.
“Having won the previous eight (one-day) matches, we’ve been able to keep good consistency in selection with our ODI squad.
“We still have a number of guys pushing their case in domestic cricket and that’s pleasing, but this is the squad for the first two matches.”
Those players could earn promotion for the later ODIs, before another squad is named for Tests against England in Auckland and Christchurch.
