A woman has spent the night trapped in a car in freezing temperatures after her vehicle rolled in the central North Island.
Dozens of cars drove past the overturned car on State Highway 41 overnight without seeing it, a Greenlea Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.
The woman lay trapped until 9am on Monday when she was spotted by builders from nearby Taumaranui on the way to work.
She was eventually cut out by rescue teams and flown to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.
The temperature in the area had reached only 1degC by the time she was rescued at about 10am and would have dropped to about -4degC, according to the Metservice. NZN
