Six more people have been arrested following the death of a 19-year-old in Invercargill where another man has been charged with his murder.
A 20-year-old man has appeared in the Invercargill District Court charged with murder after the 19-year-old died following an assault near Stadium Southland on Wednesday night.
Yesterday, police said three men, aged 21, 19 and 18, and three women, aged 23, 18 and 16, had been arrested in relation to the incident.
They each face a charge of being party to murder.
They were all known to the victim, police say.
“This is a terrible incident that resulted in a young man tragically losing his life. It is a shock for the Southland community and in particular the families involved,” Inspector Joel Lamb said.
He believed it was an isolated incident.
A post-mortem examination and formal identification of the dead man is taking place.
