Police believe they are searching in the right area but they still have not found two men lost in Tongariro National Park for five nights.
Officers were joined by search experts and soldiers in combing part of the park this morning.
More of pair’s items were found yesterday, senior sergeant Tony Jeurissen said.
“This has provided further confirmation that we are focusing our search efforts on the correct area.”
Police met with pair’s whanau last night to provide them with an update on the search.
Members of Tuwharetoa were also in attendance and have been providing assistance.
About a dozen soldiers from Waiouru Military Camp joined the search yesterday.
The two men, possibly suffering hypothermia, allegedly fled from police on Saturday in the central North Island.
They were last seen that night and police say the hopes of finding them alive are diminishing.
Police earlier said the pair, in their 20s, were believed to be the same men found driving a stolen car officers had tried to stop on State highway 1 on Saturday.
