Old Porirua Road remains one of the options for residents wanting to get to and from Ngaio and Kaiwharawhara in Wellington due to a slip, likely for some time yet.
Wellington City Council reported yesterday that 3500 cubic metres had been cleared of the massive slip that came down on July 29, before a second smaller slip five days later.
Contractors took advantage of settled weather to clear much of the dirt and rock about one-third has now been removed but the council says this part of the operation would continue until the end of this week.
A realignment of the road may occur after the slip is cleared, along with a safety barrier system to catch any further rocks that might fall.
Other routes motorists are urged to use other routes are the main Ngauranga Gorge, Onslow Road and Churchill Drive via Wadestown. NZN
