A two-year-old girl and her puppy have been found in bush about 3km from her family home after going missing for more than seven hours near Motueka.
The girl and dog were found about 11.20pm yesterday following a five-hour search by police, search volunteers, family and neighbours, police say.
“The girl and the puppy have been returned to their very relieved family,” acting senior sergeant Nigel McMorran said.
It was an excellent result, he said.
The girl went missing from her rural Little Sydney Road, Brooklyn, home about 4pm and police were called around 6pm.
A major search was launched, involving about 20 people combing the large property.
A helicopter was on stand-by but poor weather meant it could not be used.
Mr McMorran said police were inundated with offers from members of the public to help with the evening search in every way possible.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to the local community for their help and support,” he said. NZN
