The family of Karl Roberts who is missing after a car crash in rugged northern Taranaki, hope he has got some survival gear and is hunkering down, alive.
Mystery surrounds the 31-year-old’s disappearance following a car crash in Uruti, 45km north-east of New Plymouth, on Tuesday.
His mother, Debra Roberts, said: “It’s very concerning because he would only have jeans on and a sweat shirt.
“I’m not confident of anything right now. It just depends what happened that night the bad weather.
“It’s very emotional.”
Some camping gear, including a pack and a sleeping bag, were missing from their Uruti home, she said, but it was not clear that her son had taken it.
The police said Karl Roberts appeared to have lost control of his car, a green Subaru Impreza, early on Tuesday afternoon. The car slid down a bank and stopped close to the stream that runs alongside Uruti Road. NZME
