Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has been knighted by the Danish queen.
The 53-year-old Danish-born rocker is now a knight of the Order of the Dannebrog, a recognition of his contribution to the arts.
Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark presented the badge of decoration on behalf of Queen Margrethe II during a visit to the United States, according to a post on the royal palace Facebook.
The ceremony took place in San Francisco, where Ulrich lives.
Ulrich was officially named on May 26, but the palace did not release the information until the handover took place.
Metallica one of the world’s biggest rock groups was formed in 1981 by Ulrich and guitarist and singer James Hetfield.
The band has scored numerous hits, including Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman. DPA
