Pike chief going

Pike River Coal Ltd chief executive Gordon Ward is leaving the company on October 1. He has been chief executive since May 2007. The company said today it would name a successor shortly. The board thanked Mr Ward for his significant contribution to the company over what has been an extended and often difficult period of mine development. Pike River operates a coal mine at Atarau, 40km north of Greymouth. — NZPA
