Coast lake rated in world’s top 10

Arguably New Zealand’s most famous postcard scene, Lake Matheson, has been named as one of the 10 best in the world.
The title comes from international travel guide Budget Travel, and pits it against others in America, Italy, Canada and Scotland, which “go to all the right extremes — highest, deepest, clearest — and showcase nature at its most spectacular”.
With its famous reflections of Mounts Cook and Tasman, the guide recommends visiting in dawn “when the water is at its calmest and mirror images are impossibly perfect”.
Other lakes highlighted in the guide are: Peyto Lake (Canada), Crate Lake (United States), Lake Atitlan (Guatemala), Loch Lomond (Scotland), Lake Garda (Italy), Lake Annecy (France), Plitrice Lake (Croatia) and Lake Bled (Croatia).
