No buyers for Otira
Otira village is still up for grabs to the first person who comes calling with a spare $1 million in the bank. Owners Bill and Chris Hennah fielded over 300 inquiries from all over the world, after advertising the historic hotel, and a number of former railway houses for sale. In July they thought they had weeded out four “definite” expressions of interest but Mrs Hennah said nothing had come of them. “We are waiting to hear from the real estate agent but at this stage the village is still out there, still up for sale.” The former Auckland couple bought Otira for $70,000 about 12 years ago, when the railways pulled out.
