PM schedules Fox visit
Both the Prime Minister John Key and Transport Minister Steven Joyce are expected to visit Fox Glacier before the end of next week as the Government pays its respects to the nine victims of Saturday’s air tragedy.
Mr Joyce will visit on Friday, and the Prime Minister’s appearance has been earmarked for late next week.
“I’d like to go and see the people on the West Coast,” Mr Key said from the Christchurch earthquake zone this morning.
“In amongst this (the earthquake) they’ve suffered a tremendous tragedy. I spoke to the Mayor yesterday afternoon.
“It’s a small, tight-knit community and they are feeling a normal sense of grief and I’d like to go over and pay my respects to them.”
Westland Mayor Maureen Pugh will accompany them to the village, which she said was still in deep mourning after the crash, which claimed five seasonal locals who were working for Skydive NZ.
Parliament yesterday passed a motion of condolence for the family and friends of the victims, as MPs spoke of the tragedy.
