Priest dies
A well-known former Greymouth Catholic priest Father Miles O’Malley died in Christchurch Hospital on Wednesday morning after a brief illness. Father O’Malley was ordained in Rome in 1961 after completing his studies there. He was parish priest in Greymouth from 1975 to 1983, and also served at parishes in Lincoln, Sockburn and the Christchurch Cathedral. St Patrick’s parish priest Father John Morrison said Father O’Malley was a friendly, outgoing person who was good with people. “He knew how to relate to others well. He was a competent pianist, organist and singer.”
