Coast hockey to host NZ schoolgirls

Greymouth will be invaded by 200 schoolgirls from all over New Zealand when the West Coast Hockey Association hosts the Audrey Timlin Memorial Trophy tournament later this month.
The tier three tournament has attracted 15 teams from Auckland, Hamilton, Kapiti, Lower Hutt, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru and Oamaru.
A Greymouth High School girls team reached the final of the Audrey Timlin, in Christchurch last year, earning promotion to the Marie Fry Trophy (a tier two tournament) in Palmerston North.
West Coast Hockey Association regional development officer Jade Blackman said the Audrey Timlin tournament would be one of the largest hockey events hosted on the West Coast, and with more than 200 players and supporters in attendance it was expected to generate $100,000 for the local economy.
The tournament will run for a week from August 30, with games running from 8am to 7pm each day.
