Rest home honours Hokitika GPs

Maida Bryan released balloons to mark the opening of the new Allen Bryant Lifecare lounge yesterday.

About 100 people were present for the opening of the new McLean Lounge, named after past Hokitika GPs Jean and Donald McLean. The renovations have been under way since February.
Ultimate Care Group chairman David Renwick said that while building in an existing operation could be trying, it was justified.
“We now have a new lounge that we can all be very proud of.”
The upgrade also included an extension to the dining area, two new purpose-built hospital rooms and landscaped outdoor seating area for the residents to enjoy.
Maida Bryant, widow of former Hokitika GP Allen Bryant, after whom the rest home is named, unveiled the commemorative plaque yesterday and 90-year-old Hilda Hutchison, who has lived there for the longest period, cut the celebratory cake.
