Woodstock pioneers honoured

About 70 descendants of the pioneering Thorpe family of Woodstock got back together at the weekend to celebrate the arrival of Frederick and Rose-Ann Thorpe in Westland in the early 1870s.
After marrying in Hokitika in 1874 the couple settled at Woodstock, and a number of Thorpe descendants still live in the district.
Reunion events included a dinner on Friday night at the Royal Mail Tavern, in Woodstock, a blessing of family gravestones at the Hokitika Cemetery on Saturday, and concluded with a guided tour of the history of Woodstock and Rimu on Sunday.
