Heavy showers, hail and a few claps of thunder and lightning played a part in the annual Bruce Bay Sports, on Sunday.
A good number of people from Haast to Fox Glacier turned up for the community event, but the weather led to a number of cancellations. However, it still attracted axemen from around the country for the timbersports competition.
Other events including a hospitality and photo competition. The day wrapped up with a masquerade ball in the Bruce Bay Hall.
Money raised from this year’s sports day and ball will go towards helping children from the Bruce Bay and Jacobs River area to travel to Fox Glacier for school since the closure of the Jacobs River School last year.
