The first 24m-high structural wall for the new drier 7 tower was lifted into place at the Hokitika dairy factory site yesterday. Weighing 86-tonnes, the shear panel is one of two which have been pre-cast on-site for the $102 million nutritionals plant. Building began in May. Project manager Felicity Lane said 19 concrete panels would be hoisted into place for the external and internal walls of the tower foundation over the next few months. Once complete next year the 35m-high building will be capable of producing an additional 23,000 tonnes of nutritional product each season for Westland Milk Products.
