School's out for Glenys

By Viv Logie

Twenty-eight years after starting work as an office assistant at Greymouth High School, Glenys Walton, right, was this week packing up her desk ready for her retirement. Miss Walton, administration manager for the past 12 years, said that with new technology being introduced at the school she decided it was time to bow out. “I’m going to leave it to someone new to come in and pick up the new changes,” she said. She loved her time at the school, saying the office staff she had worked with over the years had made it an enjoyable workplace. Miss Walton will not be sitting idle in her retirement as she intends picking up all the things that fell by the wayside during her career. She is keen to get back into swimming and line dancing, and hopes the West Coast Netball Centre will find a role for an “old netball umpire”.
