Lachlan Oliver, five, was at Grey Base Hospital yesterday as the West Coast Heartland rugby silverware — the coveted Seddon Shield and Rundle Cup — were doing the rounds of the wards, with help from Heartland squad manager Mark Costello and player Peter Te Rakau. The Rundle Cup, dating back to 1911, is contested annually with Buller and was last won by the Coast in 2010. The Seddon Shield, dating from 1922, was last held by the Coast in 1980, and is normally kept under lock and key. Rugby union spokesman Adam Gilshnan said they had also visited Grey Main School, and thought hospital patients would enjoy seeing the silverware. Within minutes of arriving hospital staff stopped for photos with the trophies.
