Import admits indecent assault on young visitor

A 14-year-old visitor to the West Coast was left crying and distressed when a recent import made lewd suggestions to her then slapped her bottom in the Subway restaurant, the Greymouth District Court heard this week.
Riaz Khan, 18, had recently moved from Tauranga to Greymouth, leaving behind a Youth Court history of serious offending, Judge David Saunders said.
Yesterday, he was sentenced to 120 hours’ community work and nine months’ supervision, including alcohol and drug counselling, after he admitted charges of indecent assault, and possessing cannabis, cannabis seeds and utensils.
The court heard that the girl was in the restaurant with her sister and mother when Khan said — in much more obscene words — that he wanted to take her home and sodomise her, and then smacked her behind.
When searching Khan’s house police found 2g of cannabis, 127 seeds and cannabis pipes.
Khan told police that the girl was a friend and thought his lewd suggestion was funny, but police found out that she was a complete stranger to him.
Judge Saunders warned Khan that he had graduated to the adult court now and the sentences were much tougher.
“Keep this up and you will find you have a one-way ticket across the hill (to Christchurch Prison) on the big white bus.”
