Ahaura teenager Kristy Havill is shown with the three medals she won at the recent New Zealand Secondary Schools Clay Target Shooting Competition, in Hamilton.
Representing Rangi Ruru Girls School, in Christchurch, the Year 12 Coaster won bronze in the New Zealand single rise, silver in the North Island single barrel and gold in the New Zealand single barrel. Kristy was also one of the top three girls in the South Island, beating the top three North Island shooters. She finished second overall in the two-day competition. As well bagging three medals, Kristy was rewarded with a brand new $6500 Beretta gun presented by Beretta New Zealand. She has been clay target shooting since she was 11. Before going to Rangi Ruru as a Year 9 boarder, Kristy was educated in Hokitika and Awahono Primary School.
She competed in the same event in Christchurch last year and said her success this year was due to having more experience under her belt.
