The West Coast Heartland rugby team should be a shoe in for next year’s team of the year title after filling the trophy cabinet this season. Heartland team coaches Sean Cuttance, left, and Allan Lindsay show off the trophies — the Seddon Shield, Rundle Cup, Arthur Wickes Memorial Cup and the Coal Pit Trophy. The Seddon Shield was the first trophy of the season, a feat that took 37 years, when they were victorious over Nelson; Coast last held the shield in 1976. They next beat Buller to snare the Rundle Cup, defeated East Coast last weekend for the Arthur Wickes Memorial Cup, and their win against South Canterbury bagged the inaugural Coal Pit Trophy. This weekend the team heads north to meet Thames Valley, in Paeroa.
