Arrest follows Reefton stakeout


The man at the centre of an armed offenders squad stakeout in Reefton last night was remanded in custody when he made a brief appearance in the Greymouth District Court this morning.
The 62-year-old was granted interim name suppression. He faces charges of presenting a firearm at a woman and threatening to kill.
He was remanded in custody as police requested that he get access to the mental health system. His next appearance will be in the Christchurch District Court on April 1.
Police were first called about 6pm. The West Coast AOS was scrambled and cordoned off the house until the man surrendered himself shortly after 9.30pm.
No shots were fired.
